Badger duo marks first two All-Region selections since 2013
MADISON, Wis. – An outstanding season deserves outstanding awards, and that's just what Sam Brotherton and Chris Mueller earned, as the Wisconsin men's soccer duo was named to Midwest All-Region teams, the NSCAA announced Wednesday.
The two Badgers mark the first All-Region selections since AJ Cochran and Tomislav Zadro were selected to the All-Great Lakes Region first team in 2013.
Mueller earned a spot on the first team after recording one of the best season of his collegiate career. Mueller was also selected to the All-Big Ten first team this year, becoming the first Badger to earn the accolade since 2013 and just the 19th honoree in program history.
Mueller played in all 19 games this past season, leading the team in points (27), goals (8), shots (60), assists (11) and shots on goal (30).
Brotherton was named to the All-Region second team, garnering his first NSCAA accolade just weeks after being named to the All-Big Ten second team.
UW's lone team captain, Brotherton was the anchor of Wisconsin's backline all season long. The defender also had an offensive spark for the Badgers this season as well, scoring the first three goals of his collegiate career.
