Two Badgers shoot under par at Westbrook Invite

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Playing in ideal conditions with little wind, sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s, four teams scored under par after two rounds of the fifth annual Westbrook Spring Invitational held at the Westbrook Vistas Golf Course in Peoria, Ariz.
Oregon emerged from a three-way tie to take the second round to lead at 9-under 285-282=567 which ranks third best in the Westbrook Spring Invitational records. UNLV and Kansas State are tied for second at 3-under 573.
Oregon's Caroline Inglis leads the field at 5-under 70-69=139 on the par 72, 6,269-yard course. Seventeen others are also under par in the 15-team, 86-person field.

The host Badgers women's golf team (584) posted a 5-over 293 in the first round and a 3-over 291 in Round 2 on Sunday, putting the Badgers in ninth.
Among the six Big Ten squads competing, UW ranks second, with Ohio State (287-288=575) leading the way at 1-under.
Wisconsin's best golfer was Brooke Ferrell (142), who netted a 1-under 71 in back-to-back rounds to go 2-under. She is tied for seventh with three other golfers.
Ferrell's 36-hole scorecard of 142 was just two strokes off her career-high (66-74=140) which she registered at the Cardinal Cup on Oct. 19--an event where she earned a share of first place.
Michelle Cheung (71-72) narrowly trailed her teammate, as the junior put up a 1-under 143. The two-round total marked a new career-high for Cheung, trumping her previous low of 145. She sits in a knot for 11th entering Round 3.
At 4-over Gabby Curtis (75-73=148) is tied for 43rd, while Nat Zeng (76-75) sits in a tie for 64th with a 7-over 151 through 36 holes.
Rounding out the Badgers team scoring was Jessica Reinecke. The freshman (156) notched identical rounds of 78 to go 12-over. Reinecke is tied for 81st.
Becky Klongland (74-72=146) and Ali Nageotte (78-76=154) participated in the tournament as individuals, shooting 2-over and 10-over, respectively.
Klongland is knotted in 30th, while Nageotte is in a tie for 75th.
Third-round play at the Westbrook Spring Invitational begins at 8:30 a.m.
