Anzalone, Lee lead Badgers in Big Apple

UW distance duo shine at Armory Track Invitational
NEW YORK CITY – During the first day of the Armory Track Invitational at the historic Armory, the distance crew shined for the No. 9 Wisconsin women's track and field team, earning a trio of top-five finishes on Friday.

Redshirt senior Gabi Anzalone took second in the 3000 meters, finishing in 9 minutes, 29.60 seconds. Anzalone led for the majority of the race before being caught and passed with 60 meters remaining.

Fellow distance runner Michele Lee also stood out as she finished third in the 5000 meters in 16:31.57 as the Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native crushed her previous personal record by nearly 25 seconds. Her time ranks 20th in the country.

Junior Jame Shannon took fifth in the 5000 meters in 16:50.21, while Colette Ricther was seventh in 17:17.45.Â
Sophomore Ebony McClendon also had a strong showing early in the day placing second in her heat in the 60 meters clocking in at 7.67, which advanced her to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, McClendon posted an even faster time, finishing in 7.57 seconds which put her 12th place overall.

Redshirt freshman Banke Oginni also showed some spark from the Badgers as she placed seventh in the shot put with a heave of 47 feet, 9 inches.

The distance medley team consisting of Emma Reifel, McClendon, Brenna Detra, and Amy Davis clocked in at 11:41.21 to finish fifth. Â

The Badgers see more action on Saturday as the final day of the Armory Track Invitational begins at 8 a.m. (CT). Â
