Reinecke leads the way for eighth-place Badgers

UW trails seventh- and sixth-place teams by two and three strokes, respectively

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Wisconsin women's golf team opened the spring season with a 17-over 305, putting the Badgers in eighth place at the UCF Challenge.

Leading the way for UW was Jessica Reinecke, who shot an even par 72. Through 18 holes she is tied for third with four other golfers.

Michelle Butler of Missouri and Emily Penttila of Tulane, who shot a 1-under 71, are at the top of the player leaderboard.

Houston is first on the team leaderboard after recording a 7-over 295, followed by Texas at an 11-over 299. Missouri, Iowa State and Augusta are knotted in third with a 13-over 301. The Badgers trail Kentucky in seventh and Tulane in sixth by just two and three strokes, respectively.

Brooke Ferrell was Wisconsin's second-best golfer, shooting a 2-over 74. The score put her in a tied for 12th.

Nat Zeng in a knot for 59th with a 7-over 79. Michelle Cheung was one stroke back of Zeng with a 1-over 80. The Round 1 result placed her in a tie for 65th.

Gabby Curtis rounded out Wisconsin's team scoring. The sophomore shot a 9-over 81 in the first round which tied her for 70th.

The Badgers' lone individual competitor, Tess Hackworthy, registered a 7-over 79, tying her with Zeng and four other golfers in 59th.

Second-round action is set to tee off Monday morning, while the UCF Challenge will wrap up on Tuesday.
