Badgers improve in Round 2 of UCF Challenge

Ferrell leads Wisconsin at 5-over, followed by Reinecke at 6-over

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Wisconsin women's golf team showed improvement from the first to second round of the 54-hole UCF Challenge, shooting a 9-over 297 on Monday, but the Badgers dropped four spots to place 12th after 36 holes.

Following its tournament-best Round 2 score of 283, Missouri (+8, 301-283=584) jumped from a tie for third to the top position on the team leaderboard.

Tulane (+11, 302-285=587) is three strokes behind the Tigers, followed by Iowa State (+12, 301-287=588) in third and fourth-place Houston (+14, 295-295=590). Kentucky rounds out the top five with a 19-over 303-292=595.

Brooke Ferrell (+5, 74-75=149) leads the way for UW shooting a 3-over 75 on Sunday—one stroke more than the first round. At 5-over, Ferrell is in a tie for 22nd. Freshman Jessica Reinecke, who led the Badgers after round 1 with a career-best 72, is tied for 31st (+6, 72+78=150).
Three of Wisconsin's six golfers had a better score in the second round in comparison to their first 18 holes.

Michelle Cheung (+8, 80-72=152) displayed the largest improvement, going from an 8-over 80 in Round 1 to an even 72 on Monday. Her two-round score of 152 situates her in a tie for 40th.

Gabby Curtis (+12, 81-75=156) responded with a 3-over 75 in the second round, improving over the 81 strokes she registered on Sunday. She is knotted in 68th with 18 holes left to play.

The last Badgers golfer to better her score from the first day to Day 2 was Nat Zeng (+10 79-75=154), who went from a 79 to a 3-over 75. Her 36-hole total puts her in a tie for 51st.

Tess Hackworthy,, the Badgers' lone individual competitor, had a 9-over 81 on Monday. She is tied for 86th overall and tied for first with Minnesota's Celia Kuenster on the individual leaderboard.

UCF Challenge action will wrap up on Tuesday with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
