Sophomore went 1-under on Tuesday, as Wisconsin placed 15th
• FINAL RESULTS
ORLANDO, Fla. – Gabby Curtis put together her best round of the UCF Challenge on Tuesday, shooting a 1-under 71, as the Wisconsin women's golf team logged a 312 on Day 3 to finish 15th.
The sophomore was one of just 22 golfers to record a single-round scorecard of 1-under or better. To put that into perspective, 96 competitors combined to golf 288 rounds, of which only 9.02 percent were a 71 (17), 70 (three), 69 (three) or 68 (three).
Curtis (+11, 81-75-71=227) was the only UW participant that improved each day of the UCF Challenge. She went from an 81 in Round 1 to a 75 in the second round before notching her best score of the spring season on Tuesday. Curtis finished in a tie for 37th.
The Badgers (+50, 305-297-312=914) were one and two strokes off Mississippi State in 14th and 13th-place Minnesota, respectively.
Houston (+21, 295-295-295=885), who led the field after the first day, regained the top position after falling back to fourth following Round 2. Interestingly, the Cougars netted identical outputs each day to finish 21-over.
In second was Tulane (+22, 302-285-299=886), followed by Missouri (+26, 301-283-306=890).
Texas (+27, 299-297-295=891) placed fourth, while East Carolina (+28, 309-290-293=892), Iowa State (+28, 301-287-304=892) and Kentucky (+28, 303-292-297=892) finished in a knot for fifth.
The Pirates' Frida Gustafsson Spang (-3, 73-68-72=213) took the tournament crown, outscoring Michelle Butler (E, 71-70-75=216) of Missouri by three strokes.
Behind Curtis, Brooke Ferrell (+14, 74-75-81=230) was Wisconsin's second-best golfer at the UCF Challenge, as she went 14-over. The junior placed tied for 49th.
Nat Zeng (+15, 79-75-77=231) trailed Ferrell by one shot after three rounds, finishing with a 15-over 231, which put her in a knot for 53rd.
Jessica Reinecke (+18, 72-78-84=234) and Michelle Cheung (+19, 80-72-83=235) wrapped up UW's team scoring, as they placed tied for 66th and tied for 72nd, respectively. Prior to Curtis' 71 on Tuesday the pair held onto the team's best 18-hole score, as they had each previously went for an even 72.
Tess Hackworthy (+28, 79-81-84=244) was the Badgers' lone individual competitor. She placed 96th at 28-over.
Wisconsin returns to the links, Feb. 21-22, at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
