Ferrell leads UW with 1-over 217 to finish tied for 13th

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. -- Junior Brooke Ferrell saved her best for the last round, collecting six birdies enroute to a 3-under 69 on Tuesday for a 1-over 76-72-69--217 to tie for 13th. Ferrell led the Badgers to tie for 10th place with a 17-over 302-290-289--881 on the par 72, 6,036-yard The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Johns Island. Tuesday's round of 289 is a team season-low 18-hole round while the 881 ties for the eighth best 54-hole score in UW history.
No. 8 Florida successfully defended its Briar's Creek Invitational title from a year ago and was the only team under par for the tournament with a 6-under 293-380-285--858. Indiana was second with a 5-over 869 .
East Carolina's Frida Gustafsson Spang won the tournament by a stroke, hitting an 8-under 73-67-68--208. Lauren Stephenson of Clemson and Morgane Metraux of Florida State tied for second at 209.
Also competinig for the Badgers was freshman Nat Zeng, shooting a career 54-hole low 5-over 75-73-73--221 to tie for 32nd. Junior Michelle Cheung was a stroke back to tie for 38th along with sophomore Gabby Curtis, both at 6-over 222. Freshman Jessica Reinecke rounded out the team scoring to tie for 78th with a 15-over 75-77-79--231, one off her career best. Playing as an individual, sophomore Becky Klongland tied for 49th with 8-over 73-73-78--224.
The Badgers return to Napa, California, on April 3-5 for the Sliverado Showdown hosted by the University of Oregon.
