UW trio earn USCHO honors

Desbiens, Pankowski and Burke receive national recognition

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin women's hockey players Ann-Renée Desbiens, Annie Pankowski, and Courtney Burke were named to All-USCHO Women's Division I teams, announced on Friday.

The All-USCHO teams are voted on by the women's editors and writers from USCHO.Com.

Desbiens, the USCHO Division I Women's Player of the Year, was named to the first team after a historic season for the Badgers. The La Malbaie, Quebec native broke three NCAA Division I men's and women's single-season records this year with a .960 save percentage, a 0.76 goals-against average, and 21 shutouts.

In 38 games, the junior netminder held opponents to one goal or less in 32 starts, helping Wisconsin set the NCAA record for fewest goals allowed, fewest goals allowed per game, and lowest single-season goals-against average. Desbiens was named the WCHA Final Face-Off Most Outstanding Player and the WCHA Player of the Year, as well as a first-team All-American and a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award top-three finalist.

Pankowski paced the Badgers' offense with 22 goals and 36 assists, earning second team accolades from USCHO. The sophomore averaged 1.45 points per game this season, ranking seventh in the nation, while recording the first 50-point season since Brianna Decker in 2012-13. Last season, Pankowski was named the USCHO Rookie of the Year for tallying a team-leading 21 goals and 43 points.

Pankowski was named to the All-WCHA First Team, as well as being a second-team All-American and a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award top-10 finalist. The Laguna Hills, California, native excelled off the ice as well, being named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and receiving the NCAA Elite 90 Award this year.

Burke was named to the USCHO third team, as the Badgers' captain ranked fourth in the nation in defensemen scoring. Burke tallied five goals and 30 assists this year, which led all WCHA defense, while holding a +46 plus/minus rating on the season.

The Albany, New York native reached the 100-career point mark this season after a five-point showing against Minnesota State on Feb. 14, 2016. Her 107 career points rank third among defensemen in program history. Burke was named a second-team All-American, as well as being named to the WCHA Final Face-Off All-Tournament Team and the All-WCHA First Team.
