Box Score MADISON, Wis. – Following a short Sunday afternoon rain delay at Goodman Diamond, the Wisconsin softball team battled the Purdue Boilermakers through seven innings in Madison, but were unable to hang on to the lead as they fell, 3-2, to drop the weekend series.
The Boilermakers capitalized on a two-RBI home run from designated player Katie Harrison with two outs in the seventh inning, capping a three-run frame, to surpass the Badgers.
A relatively quiet game through the first four innings, senior pitcher Taylor Paige Stewart started Wisconsin off with momentum as she retired three batters in the top of the first frame to give the Badgers their first offensive opportunity.
The Badgers (19-16-1, 4-4-1 Big Ten) were unable to get things going on their end, as three batters struck out to end the first tied at zero with the Boilermakers (23-17, 5-6 Big Ten).
Stewart gave up a lead-off walk to start the second, but regained control of the game and shut down the following three batters.
The Badgers followed suit, as they went down in order to close out the second frame.
The third inning proved relatively similar as Purdue went three up, three down under the reign of Stewart. However UW was unable to get things going offensively once again, as sophomore

Macy Oswald, and senior
Ashley Van Zeeland were halted by the Boilermakers to end the third.

Sara Novak combined to make all three outs in the top of the fourth inning, allowing the Badgers to have another offensive opportunity.
With a chance to get on the board, junior
Chloe Miller did just that as she smacked a home run to right field, her fifth of the season.

Melanie Cross followed with a single to center field, but Purdue capitalized on a double play off of a ground ball by sophomore
Samantha Arents to record a pair of outs.
The Boilermakers ended the fourth frame by tagging
Kelly Welsh out at first after a bunt by the freshman.
Stewart continued her hot streak in the fifth inning, as she increased her retiree count to 13-straight to bring the Boilermakers down in order to end the top of the fifth.
The Badgers added a second run to their resume in the fifth inning as pinch runner and freshman
Gabby Scherle ran past home plate thanks to an RBI single from sophomore
Kelsey Jenkins.
Similar to the beginning of the game, the sixth inning passed relatively quickly as Purdue went three up, three down to bring the Badgers to home plate.
Wisconsin was unable to make noise on the offensive end as Purdue made a double play to end the sixth inning trailing by two.
A triple by Mary Gooding to open the top of the seventh inning broke up Stewart's no hitter bid. Stewart retired the next two batters. Down to their last out, Gooding scored the Boildermakers' first run on a single by Lauren Stewart. Up next, Harrison's two-run homer put Purdue on top.
Three Badgers struck out relatively quickly in the bottom of the seventh to end the game, 3-2.
Wisconsin continues its conference schedule on Tuesday with a doubleheader in Minneapolis. The Badgers will take on Minnesota in games beginning at 4 p.m. (CT) and 6 p.m.
