Brooke Ferrell selected for NCAA Regional

Despite tying for fourth in the Big Ten Tournament, their best finish since 2011, the Badgers finished out of the running for NCAA team selection after making five of the past six regionals. Six Big Ten teams were chosen to compete in the 2016 NCAA Women's Golf Regionals. Big Ten co-champion Northwestern garnered the No. 2 seed in the Shoal Creek Regional, and will compete in Shoal Creek, Ala., along with ninth-seeded Purdue and No. 13 Michigan. Ohio State, which shared the Big Ten Championship with Northwestern, is the No. 8 seed in the Stanford Regional, and will also be joined by No. 11 Michigan State in Stanford, Calif. Indiana garnered the No. 14 seed in the Bryan Regional, and will compete in Bryan, Texas. Â Â Â Â Â Â

Iowa's Amy Ihm joins Ferrell who will compete as individuals, and join the Hoosiers in the Bryan Regional.
A total of 384 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 132 will advance to the championships finals. Six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional.
The national championships will be May 20-25 at Eugene County Club in Eugene, Oregon, hosted by the University of Oregon. The final three days of the championship will be televised live by the Golf Channel.

The Bryan regional will be played at the par 72, 6,373-yards Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. Texas A&M University, College Station will host. Conference automatic qualifiers are indicated in parenthesis next to the institution.

MADISON, WIs. - Junior Brooke Ferrell qualified as an individual for the NCAA Regional May 5-7 in Bryan, Texas. It will be the third-straight regional in which Ferrell will play.
Badger Coach Todd Oehrlein said, "I'm extremely excited for Brooke. Â She's had a great spring and has worked hard for this opportunity. She's been consistent all spring, finishing with a great Big Ten Tournament."Â

Oehrlein continued, "She's playing really well right now, so I look forward to seeing her compete on a great golf course."This is the third year that she's played in the NCAA Regionals and her experience will be an advantage for her."
Ferrell led the Big Ten Tournament April 22-24 for the first two days before finishing third with a 7-under and school 54-hole record 209. Along the way she set school records for her opening round of 65, tying the school 18-hole mark, and had even par 72 the second day for a 36-hole record 137. Ferrell has led UW in five of 10 tournaments this season and her scoring average of 73.20 ranks first in school history by over a stroke. She also owns the freshman scoring record of 74.72.

Ferrell's prior NCAA Regionals included being a member of the UW team where she finished 20th with a 224 as a sophomore, and tied for 87th as a freshman with a 239.
