Senior up for spot on U.S. National Team
MADISON, Wis. – Lauren Carlini, a senior on the Wisconsin volleyball team, is one of 19 athletes invited by USA Volleyball to train and compete for a Pan American Cup roster spot. The Pan American Cup is scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 11 in the Dominican Republic.
Carlini, a 6-foot, two-inch setter, is a two-time first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American for the Badgers. She led the Big Ten Conference and ranked seventh nationally with 11.91 assists per set as a junior. A native of Aurora, Illinois, Carlini also added 2.79 digs and 0.82 blocks per set last season. The two-time reigning Big Ten Setter of the Year is also a three-time All-Big Ten pick.
Carlini is one of three setters invited to the training camp along with former Michigan setter Lexi Dannemiller and former Penn State setter Micha Hancock. Carlini is also one of eight athletes with collegiate eligibility remaining on the training team. Â
As this competition runs concurrently with the World Grand Prix, U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly has named University of Pittsburgh Head Coach Dan Fisher to lead the Pan American Cup squad. Fisher served in a similar role at the 2015 Pan American Games and led the U.S. to the gold medal, beating Brazil in the championship match.
The final Pan American Cup competition roster will be named in late June.
