Dakota Whyte to participate in Canadian National Team training camp

Former Badger one of 24 players invited to camp
MADISON, Wis. -- Former Badger Dakota Whyte is one of 24 players who have been invited to participate in Canada Basketball's women's national team phase 1 camp. The camp will take place at Saville Community Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, from May 21-30. The camp is the first step in selection for the Canadian team that will compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Whyte, a 5-foot, 8-inch guard, wrapped up a four-year career with the Badgers this spring. The Toronto, Ontario, native played in 114 games in the Cardinal and White, starting 70. She averaged 8.2 points for her career, including a season-best 12.9 points per game in 2015-16. Whyte also added 2.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game during her four seasons.
Following the first phase of training, a squad will be nominated to travel to Spain and France for a five-game exhibition tour. Canada, currently ninth in the FIBA World Rankings, will face-off against second-ranked Australia, third-ranked Spain, fourth-ranked France, eighth-ranked China, and 13th-ranked Cuba on the tour.
Canada will re-group on June 28 in Edmonton for the second phase of training, where it will host China for the Edmonton Grads International Classic from July 9-11 at the Saville Centre in Edmonton.Â
The final phase of training begins July 22 in Toronto. The team will then head to the United States for an exhibition tournament before heading to Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games from Aug. 5 -22.
