Women's golf completes record-setting season

All-time team scoring average of 296.45 established along with individual records

MADISON, Wis. -- The Badgers set a new school record with 8597 strokes in 29 rounds for 296.45. The old season record set in 2014-15 was 298.97.
UW averaged 297.43 through 14 rounds in the fall and a 295.53 average in the spring.
The team has its best Big Ten Conference finish since 2011, tying for fourth with a 54-hole conference meet best 289-290-283--862; the second best 54-hole score in school history. The 283 in the last round also tied for second-best 18-hole team score all-time.
The Cardinal Cup tied Wisconsin's best tournament finish of the season, as the Badgers (302-295-299=896) placed fourth.
Hosting the fifth-annual Westbrook Invitational, the Badgers (293-291-290=874) placed 10th, as Brooke Ferrell tied for first on the player leaderboard. UW's third round score tied a season-best and the 874 was fifth best 54-hole in school history.
2015-16 Individual Notes:Â
Junior Brooke Ferrell qualified for her third NCAA Regional where she placed 59th with a 78-71-78--221. She led UW in four tournaments and tied for the second best finish at the Big Ten championship placing third with a school record 65-72-72=209. The 65 and 137 tied school marks.
Ferrell tied for medalist honors in two events: Oct. 19-20, at the Cardinal Cup she matched the then-school record for 54 holes (213), in addition to tying the second- and third-best scores for 18- (66) and 36-holes (140), respectively. Ferrell finished the tournament knotted in first at 3-under. Ferrell (71-71-69) bettered her previous 54-hole best at the Westbrook Invitational, Feb. 21-22, by shooting a new 54-hole school record 5-under 211 and earning her second first-place finish of the year, as she tied with San Diego State's Emma Henrikson (69-73-79=211). Ferrell led the Badgers for the second-straight season this year with a career-best 73.25 strokes per round.
Sophomore Gabby Curtis was the Badgers' top finisher in four tournaments including a season 54-hole best tying for 18th at the Alamo Invitational with a 3-over 73-72-74--219. She was second on the team in scoring with 74.83 strokes per round.
Junior Michelle Cheung (71-72-73) netted the best 36- (143) and 54-hole (216) scores of her career at the Westbrook Spring Invitational, as she placed tied for 18th at even par. She was third on the team in scoring averaging 74.97.Â
Freshman Nat Zeng was Wisconsin's top rookie golfer. She was the second UW finisher at the Briar's Creek Invitational placing tied for 32nd with a personal 54-hole best 75-73-73--221. Her frosh season average of 75.91 ranks second all-time behind Ferrell.
Freshman Jessica Reinecke netted the best 18-, (72) and 36- (150) scores of her career at the UCF Challenge. Her even par 72 in the first round was tied for the second-best scorecard on the team. Reinecke (78-78-74) bested her previous 54-hole low of 234 with a 14-over 230 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational.
Sophomore Becky Klongland played in 26 rounds and averaged a career-best 76.50 per round. She was the second best finisher at the conference meet tying for ninth with a career best 74-71-68--213, which ties the third best 54-hole round in school history. Her 76.5 average was a career best by 2.2 strokes.
Big Ten Conference Honors
Brooke Ferrell was named first team All-Big Ten in 2016, becoming the first Badgers to earn the honor since Malinda Johnson in 2004. She earned second-team honors in 2015.
Ferrell earned her second Big Ten Player of the Week honor this year with her second medalist title Feb. 22 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Arizona. Ferrell set the then-school 54-hole record with a 71-71-69--211.Â
She earned her first weekly honor on Oct. 23 with a 3-under 66-74-73=213 to tie for first at the Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Kentucky. The 213 was the old school mark she had tied several times. It was the first time a Badger won an event since Kimberly Dinh took the crown at the BYU Entrada Classic in 2013.
Michelle Cheung was named the Sportsmanship Award winner from Wisconsin in 2016.
