OMAHA, Neb. – Former Wisconsin swimmer Michael Weiss made his second appearance in a semifinal at the 2016 U.S. Swimming Olympic Team Trials in the men's 200-meter individual medley, but came up short of advancing to the final of the event on Thursday in Omaha, Nebraska.

Beginning the day with a time of 2 minutes, 1.96 seconds in preliminaries, Weiss earned himself a spot to compete later in the evening during the 200 individual medley semifinal. Weiss swam in the first heat of the semifinal and finished sixth in the section with a time of 2:01.39, but it unfortunately ended up being the 11th-fastest time and did not earn him one of eight spots in the final.

In the men's 200-meter backstroke, Todd McCarthy finished 43rd overall in prelims with a time of 2:02.95. Austin Byrd was close behind with the 48th-best time overall in 2:03.18.
