
Brotherton and New Zealand advance to finals of OFC Nations Cup

All Whites earn 1-0 victory over New Caledonia, advance to final
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer defender Sam Brotherton and the New Zealand national team advanced to the OFC Nations Cup final after earning a 1-0 semifinals victory against New Caledonia on Wednesday in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Brotherton started and played the full 90 minutes of the match for New Zealand against New Caledonia. Chris Wood scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute for the All Whites, who advanced to face either hosts Papua New Guinea or the Solomon Islands in the final on Saturday.
Brotherton has started all four matches for New Zealand at the OFC Nations Cup. The Auckland, New Zealand, native finished his freshman season at Wisconsin last fall and started all 17 games he played in for the Badgers. Brotherton was named to the 2015 All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
