#AllCanada16: Young writes about UW's first day in Vancouver

Ferry ride, walking the city, position dinner and team bonding
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The Wisconsin women's basketball team is spending a week touring British Columbia in western Canada. The team will visit Victoria, Vancouver and Whistler and play three games against college teams there.
Along the way, several Badgers will write daily blogs covering each day's activities. Up second is senior Avyanna Young writing about the team's ferry ride to Vancouver and what they learned about each other during a team bonding experience.
Monday was a great day but once again one filled with travel!
Â
At 9 this morning, we bused to the ferry in Victoria, making our way to Vancouver. We had about an hour drive to the ferry and our tour guide Fred, who is great was on the mic, gave us some British Columbian history. For example they had the biggest Wal-Mart in the world for 17 days before Texas built an even bigger one (I know Kendall loved to hear that!).
Â
Arriving at the ferry, we had about 40 minutes to shop around at a few stores they had set up in tents outside. There were a ton of vintage signs, jewelry, spices and coffee, I loved it! What amazed me the most was that we drove our bus on the ferry alongside semis. If you could not tell, I have never been on a ferry before and it was a great experience. The ride was about an hour-and-a-half and it really was not bad at all, very relaxing and smooth.
Â
We arrived in Vancouver, had a little down time to walk around the town and grab a bit to eat or sleep (which we all were pretty tired due to travel and our first game).
Â
Around 6:15 p.m., we all separated and had position group dinners, of course I was in the post group! We went to a seafood place in a place called Grandville Island and the restaurant was Sandbar. The food was amazing! It was on the water with a great atmosphere. I had the crab cakes with truffle parmesan fries and garlic aioli sauce with a white chocolate slice of cheesecake to top it off. The post group was having such a great time that we were a little late to our team bonding!
Â
To cap off the night, we had a team building event. We teamed up with our roommates and we each had to come up with a truth and a lie. It was a great learning experience where we had a chance to find out some new things about us as a team and our staff. Everyone who knows Coach Tsip knows that everything he does is competitive so I'm proud to say Abby (Laszewski) and I won so we get to go to sleep with a nice win under our belt, ready for our game tomorrow!
