Badgers look to build on success at East & West Match Play Challenge

UW to face four Big Ten teams
MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin women's golf team will get a taste of the NCAA championship final format at the East & West Match Play Challenge in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from Sept. 18-20.

Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, UC Davis, host Michigan and the Badgers will be competing at the par-72, 6,292 yard Radrick Farms Golf Course.

The eight-team field will first play 36 holes of stroke play. The top four teams will then advance to the championship bracket, while the remaining four will compete in the consolation bracket. In match play, five players will partake in head-to-head individual play and the first team to three points (one point for each individual win) will advance.
Â
One golfer competing as an individual from each team will also compete in stroke play, but will then move on to a separate match-play tournament.

Competing for the Badgers are juniors Gabby Curtis, Becky Klongland, Ali Nageotte, and Nat Zeng as well as senior Brooke Ferrell and sophomore Tess Hackworthy.

The tournament mirrors the NCAA Finals format, which began in 2015. Last season, Wisconsin hosted the second-annual event that was created in order to give teams experience with the new format prior to the postseason. The Badgers finished eighth after losing to fifth-ranked UC Davis in the consolation bracket.

The Badgers opened their season last weekend at the Minnesota Invitational and placed fourth after shooting the third-lowest round of the day in the final round. Ferrell netted a 3-over 219 to finish eighth, while Curtis finished four strokes behind to tie for 13th place.

The first round begins on Sunday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Match play will then begin at 9 a.m. on Monday and the final day will start at 8:45 a.m. Live stats can be found at GolfStat.com.
