Curtis, Ferrell lead UW to third place during stroke play
Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Highlighted by junior Gabby Curtis' career-best 4-under 68 in the first round, the Wisconsin women's golf team sits in third place after 36 holes of stroke play and has advanced to the championship bracket of the East & West Match Play Challenge at the Radrick Farms Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Badgers (292-290=582) finished the day 6-over, just four strokes behind Kentucky and seven behind leader Ohio State. Oregon finished at 7-over to round out the top four.

Altoona, Wisconsin, native Curtis (68-74=142) finished the first round in first place but ended the day in third after shooting a 2-over 74 in the afternoon.

Just one stroke behind Curtis was senior Brooke Ferrell (73-70=143), who finished 1-under to be tied for fourth place. Junior Becky Klongland (75-73=148) finished in a tie for 17th place at 4-over, while sophomore Nat Zeng (76-73=149) was one stroke back in a tie for 22nd place. At 17-over, sophomore Tess Hackworthy (81-80=161) claimed 47th place.

Match play will begin Monday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. UW will take on Kentucky in head-to-head individual play and each team will be awarded one point for each individual win. The first team to reach three points advances.

Junior Ali Nageotte (78-79=157), who is competing as an individual, shot a 13-over 157 through 36 holes. That earned her the fourth seed and she will face top seed Sarah Shipley of Kentucky on Monday at 9:09 a.m. to begin the individual competitors' bracket.
