MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Athletics raised $5,410 in the 10th-annual Red and White Hunger Fight to benefit the Goodman Community Center and assist their efforts to ensure local families have Thanksgiving meals.Â
At the Badgers' football game against Georgia State on Sept. 17, Wisconsin Athletics hosted the Red and White Hunger Fight food drive. Driven by student-athletes, the Red and White Hunger Fight aims to provide Thanksgiving meals for low-income families across Dane County. More than 40 student-athletes braved the heat alongside volunteers from the UW's Black Student Union and the Goodman Community Center to help collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations from fans attending the game.Â
"Our student-athletes came out in full force to help collect food and money donations," said Jackie Davenport, UW Athletics' Director of Community Relations. "They were happy to be out collecting all they could for the Goodman Community Center. We received significant donations from fans."
Â
"We're so grateful for our partnership with UW Athletics' Red and White Hunger Fight," said Jon Lica, Corporate and Events Associate from the Goodman Community Center. "It's amazing to see so many student-athletes who are already balancing school and practice, give their time and energy to the Red and White Hunger Fight. These young people really care about helping others and their efforts go a long way in making sure nobody in Dane County goes without a Thanksgiving meal."
The Red and White Hunger Fight is a cherished event for student-athletes participating in the Badgers Give Back Program. The importance of feeding those in need from the community does not go unnoticed by Wisconsin Athletics.Â
