Carranza, Sprecher post wins over Louisville in individual tune up, dual play begins Jan. 28
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Badgers men's tennis team wrapped up its week in Fort Myers, Florida with the final day of the FGCU Spring Invite on Sunday. A weekend of individual play to prepare for the spring dual season, Wisconsin matched up against Louisville, coming away with a tough 2-10 record in singles and 2-3 in doubles.
"The guys battled hard today but some close sets just didn't go our way," head coach Danny Westerman said.
In singles, junior Chema Carranza picked up one of the two wins for UW when he knocked off Louisville's Sean Donohue, 7-5, 6-1. Junior Elliott Sprecher notched the other Badger win over Louisville's Fredrik Moe in a three-set duel, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
In the doubles category, junior Lamar Remy and Chase Colton paired up to beat Morin Kougoucheff and Nicolas Rouanet, 6-3. Senior John Zordani and sophomore Osgar O'Hoisin also beat the Louisville duo of Moe and Michael Quang, 6-3.
"We had a great week of training and competition here in Florida," Westerman continued. "This weekend will definitely help us prepare for the upcoming dual season."
The Badgers will now have two weeks of preparation before hosting a dual match against Valpraiso on January 28 at noon. All home matches will take place at Nielsen Tennis Stadium and are free to the public.
