Badgers to host Golden Gophers in dual meet Saturday

UW and Minnesota meet for the third time this century
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin track and field program will face Minnesota in a dual competition as the Border Battle rivals face off on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in The Shell.
Admission is free for the event, and it gives fans a chance to see the Badgers for the second time this indoor season. Fans can park for free in Lot 17, north of The Shell and the first 400 fans in attendance will receive a rally towel.
The meet begins unofficially at 11:15 a.m. with an elementary school 60-meter dash, which is open to kids from kindergarten to fifth grade. Children who wish to participate should be at The Shell by 10:45 a.m. and must sign a waiver before the competition.
Field events begin at 11:30 a.m. with the women's weight throw, the women's pole vault and the men's high jump. The first running event on the track is the women's mile at noon.
Each event is limited to four individuals from each school and each program will run one relay team.
Following the men's and women's 4x400 relay, "The Dual" trophy will be given to the winning men's and women's teams.
"I don't think no matter what sport we're talking about here at UW, when you go against Minnesota it's a huge rivalry," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "We get excited about it, the kids get excited.
"The goal on Saturday is to stuff the shell. It's a thing that we started two years ago and just like women's hockey last Saturday we want to pack the stadium, get a lot of our fans out there going crazy and cheering on the Badgers."
