Harkins named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Senior finished seventh at Bettie Lou Evans Invitational
MADISON, Wis. – Senior Lexi Harkins was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Wednesday on the heels of her seventh-place finish at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational last weekend. That paced the Badgers as the team placed second overall at the tournament, their best finish of the fall.
Harkins, in her first season at UW after transferring from North Carolina in the summer, was amazingly consistent in her play at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational. She shot a first-round 73 on the strength of four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey. She backed that up with back-to-back rounds of even-par 72, making six birdies, six bogeys and 24 pars over her final 36 holes.
All five Badgers finished among the top 20 at the Bettie Lou Evans Invite as the team finished just four strokes back of tournament champion Notre Dame in the team competition.
In three tournaments this fall, Harkins has not finished lower than a tie for 21st. Through eight competitive rounds, her scoring average of 72.63 is second-best on the Badgers.
Harkins is the first Wisconsin women's golfer to earn Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors since Jessica Reinecke did so on Feb. 8.Â
