Rettke earns fifth Big Ten Freshman of the Week award

Middle blocker led Badgers to wins over No. 4 Nebraska, Indiana
MADISON, Wis. – The awards keep coming for Dana Rettke of the ninth-ranked Badger volleyball team. The 6-8 middle blocker earned her fifth Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week award on Monday after averaging an impressive 3.0 kills and 2.0 blocks per set last week. She shares this week's honor with Illinois' Megan Cooney.
Rettke finished with a match-high eight blocks against Nebraska on Wednesday, just one off her career high of nine blocks. She was also part of all six team blocks, including one block solo, by the Badgers vs. Indiana on Friday. Rettke also had 12 kills against the Huskers, hitting .500 (12 kills – 1 error – 22 attempts) and nine kills vs. the Hoosiers. She hit .459 on the week while adding one assist, one service ace and two digs.
Of the eight weeks that the Big Ten Conference has presented awards, Rettke has been named the Freshman of the Week five times. She has also been named the Big Ten Player of the Week once.
No. 9 Wisconsin (13-4, 4-4 B1G) wraps up the first half of Big Ten play on the road with two matches on the Big Ten Network.
The Badgers travel to Maryland (14-6, 3-5) on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. CT match from the XFinity Center Pavilion in College Park, Maryland.
UW faces No. 5 Minnesota (17-2, 6-2) for the second time in less than three weeks as the Badgers and Golden Gophers serve off on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. from the Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis.
