MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin men's soccer (8-4-4 overall, 4-3-1 Big Ten) will get the week to prepare for this weekend's match against Maryland (10-4-3, 5-1-2 Big Ten), that will kick off the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in College Park. A live statistics link will be available on UWBadgers.com and live updates will be available on Twitter (@BadgerMSoccer). Sunday's match against Maryland will be streamed live on www.umterps.com.
1. LAST TIME OUT: Wisconsin closed out its regular season in strong-fashion, beating the Buckeyes, 2-0. It was the Badgers' first win in Columbus since 2000, attesting to the importance of the win and exactly how tough it is to beat Ohio State at home. It was two seniors who led the charge and put the difference on the scoreboard. Mike Catalano notched the first goal for UW, while a usual suspect, Chris Mueller, put the icing on the cake.
2. TIME TO REWRITE HISTORY: Wisconsin and Maryland haven't had a very long history on the pitch, but the games that have been played definitely favor the Terps. Wisconsin looks to pick up its first win over Maryland in school history. The Badgers are behind in the overall series, 0-7.
3. SCOUTING MARYLAND: Maryland's status as one of college soccer's most premier clubs has held strong yet another year. However, Maryland has faced some adversity down the stretch. The Terps have lost their last four games since the showdown in Madison. Of those four losses, only one opponent, Michigan, held a top-25 ranking.
4. WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME?: It was an absolute ruckus at the McClimon Complex for the last showdown between Maryland and Wisconsin. In what appeared to be a walk-off win for Maryland after going up 5-2 in the contest, the Badgers fought back tooth and nail to make it 5-4 with just under two minutes left. Wisconsin earned a corner in the final seconds and generated an open look at the goal that ended just wide as the seconds bled down to zero.
5. POSTSEASON PRIMER: Wisconsin will face Maryland in the first round of the Big Ten tournament. If the Badgers advance, they will play the winner of No. 1- seeded Michigan and No. 8 Northwestern/No. 9 Rutgers in the semifinals in Westfield, Indiana at Grand Park.
