ARLINGTON, Va. – Junior Sam Cogan and sophomore Abby Roque both scored, but it wasn't enough as the top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team suffered its first loss of the year, falling 3-2 to Northeastern in its first game of the D1 in D.C. tournament.  

The Huskies (8-7-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after scoring a power-play goal in the first period before capitalizing on a UW (16-1-0) miscue behind its net for a tally early in the second frame.

Cogan cut the deficit to one with her fourth goal of the year, scoring on a rush thanks to a great feed from sophomore Presley Norby.

However in the third period, Northeastern took a 3-1 advantage as Codie Cross scored, sneaking past the UW defense after spending time in the sin bin.

The Badgers would not go down without a fight, as Roque scored with 5.3 seconds remaining to make it a one-goal game.

Three notes of the game:
- Friday's loss snapped a 16-game winning streak for UW, which was the fourth-longest streak in school history.
- Kristen Campbell suffered her first career setback with the Cardinal and White, stopping 15 of the 18 shots she faced.
- UW outshot Northeastern 41-18, including a 32-8 advantage in the final 40 minutes.

 "We didn't capitalize on our opportunities and their goaltender played real well."

On UW's play in the first period:
"We hadn't played in a couple of weeks, so the first period was just okay. They had a power-play goal and a nice deflection. Second period we played really well, and just couldn't capitalize on our opportunities. Their goaltender played well, and stuff happens. We can practice, but competition is different than practice. Even so the first period was okay, we had a couple opportunities and it was back and forth."

On puck bounces:
"Over the course of the season you're going to get bounces. Other teams are going to get bounces and they're not always going to go your way and when the goaltender plays really well and has over 40 saves. The nice thing is the last 40 minutes, we played well and had great opportunities. We just didn't capitalize enough on our opportunities. That's part of the business."
