Badgers drop 4-3 decision at No. 24 Cornell
ITHACA, N.Y. – After knocking off a ranked opponent a day ago, the No. 31 Badgers (5-2) fell just short of notching another resume win on the weekend. In the first ever meeting between the schools, Badgers No. 24 Cornell bested Wisconsin, 4-3, on Sunday.
"Today was a hard-fought match," head coach Danny Westerman said. "I am extremely proud of our guys. Our level of play went up this weekend. Cornell is very good and we were right there with them on their home courts."
It was UW that secured the doubles point, continuing their impressive undefeated win streak in the spring season.
Juniors Josef Dodridge and Chema Carranza won for the second time this weekend at the No. 1 doubles spot, this time beating Colin Sinclair and David Volfson, 6-2.
Senior John Zordani and sophomore Osgar O'Hoisin also gained their second win on the weekend at the No. 3 doubles spot with a tight, 6-4 win over Cornell's Lev Kazakov and Dylan Brown.
In the singles category, junior captain Lamar Remy got the Badgers their first singles win of the day in 6-3, 6-4 fashion over David Volfson. Remy is now 6-2 in the dual season.
Freshman Daniel Soyfer notched yet another win this spring, playing with a poise usually out of reach for a freshman. Soyfer swiftly knocked off Cornell's Bernardo Casares at the No. 6 position with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
"It was a fun environment and I am excited for our guys to learn from this and take another step forward this week in practice," Westerman added.
The Badgers are back in action next week Friday at home when they play a doubleheader against Eastern Illinois and Marquette.
