Larry, Davis lead UW at Armory Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Wisconsin men's track and field team left day one of the Armory Invitational with one of its best showings of the indoor season, as multiple members of the Badgers shined during Friday's action.

Senior Lorenzo Larry had another monstrous day, ultimately qualifying for the 60 meter final on Saturday. The senior ran a 6.80 in both the preliminaries and semi-finals, going into the finals with the third-best qualifying time. The men's 60 meter final is scheduled for 12:26 Saturday afternoon.

Senior Ryan Davis ran a season-best 47.96 in the 400 meter invitational, finishing third in the event.

The team of Cooper Barth, Eric Brown, McKena Ramos and Russell Sandvold took second in the distance medley relay. Sitting in third with 200 meters to go, the senior Sandvold made a move to kick past Hampton's team and secure a runner-up finish for UW.

In the 500 meter invitational, junior Corbin Ellis came in sixth with a time of 1:04.09. This time marks a personal best for Ellis.

Senior Brandon Mortensen and sophomore Trent Nytes both qualified for the semi-finals of the 60 meter hurdles after posting times of 8.34 and 8.61, respectively, in the preliminary sections. In the semi-finals Mortensen crossed the line in 8.33 and Nytes finished with a time of 8.71.

In heat two of the men's 3000 meters, sophomore Tyson Miehe was runner-up, running a personal-best time of 8:16.86. Redshirt freshman Ben Eidenschink also ran a collegiate best, finishing fifth in 8:19.45.

Sophomore Alex Teague had a gutsy performance in the 400 meters. After leading his heat for the majority of the race Teague was able to hold off his competitors in the final 50 meters, winning his section with a personal-best time of 48.86, placing third overall.

"We had a lot of guys step up today," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said. "Lorenzo Larry looked good today, advancing to tomorrow's final and Ryan Davis ran a very solid 400 meters."

Wisconsin will be back in action tomorrow for the second day of the Armory Invitational, with the first Badgers slated to compete at 10:30 (CT) in the 800 meters.
