Sprinter earns pair of top-two finishes at Aztec Invitational
SAN DIEGO – Wisconsin women's track and field sophomore Ebony McClendon shined at the Aztec Invitational Friday, picking up a pair of top-two finishes in the program's first outdoor action of the 2017 season.
McClendon finished second in the 100 meters in 11.71 seconds, two-hundredths of a second off of her personal best at the SDSU Sports Deck.
Hours later, McClendon won the 200 meters in 23.97, three-tenths of a second off of her personal record.
Over in the high jump, Emma Haugen placed second with a distance of 5 feet, 7 1/4 inches (1.71 meters). Freshman Phoebe Edwards cleared the bar three times with a final mark of 5-3 1/4 (1.61m) to earn a sixth-place finish in her first outdoor competition.
Fellow freshman Chinne Okoronkwo earned fifth in the pole vault with a leap of 12-0 1/4 (3.67m).
In the 1500 meter invitational run, Amy Davis led the way with a sixth-place finish in 4:26.05. Sarah Disanza came in directly behind her with a time of 4:26.37, while Sarah Heinemann and Alicia Monson took ninth and 10th, respectively.
Casie Pawlik was seventh in the 100 hurdles in 14.86.
Action in San Diego resumes on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at the SDSU Sports Deck with the hammer throw while the UC-Riverside Spring Classic begins for the UW women's side at 12 p.m. with the javelin throw.
