STANFORD, Calif. – It's been almost three years since Wisconsin women's track and field's
Sarah Disanza has ran a 5000 meters outside.
The two-time All-American didn't disappoint in her return on Friday night at the Stanford Invitational as Disanza became the seventh in program history to run under 16 minutes in the outdoor 5000 meters thanks to a time of 15 minutes, 55.57 seconds.
"It was awesome to see Sarah running outdoors," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Mick Byrne said. "To run that fast of a time was a huge bonus for us."
Disanza placed 10th in the top section at the Angel Track despite spending the early part of the race towards the back of the pack and losing her shoe late in the race.
A native of Wantage, New Jersey, Disanza now sits seventh on the program's top-10 list in the 5000 meters.
Amy Davis and
Alicia Monson led the Badgers in the second section of the 5000 meters, as the duo finished sixth and seventh, respectively. The two underclassmen set personal bests and program top-10 marks as Davis crossed the line in 16:03.02, while Monson was right behind her teammate in 16:04.09.
The duo now rank ninth and 10th, respectively, on UW's top-10 list.
Michele Lee placed 18th in the second section in 16:28.91 while
Sarah Heinemann took 18th in the fourth section of the 5000 meters in 17:17.68.
"The last two weeks have been a great start of our group," UW assistant coach
Jill Miller said. "I am very proud of the way they are training as a group and that they are having fun with the process.
"We're excited to get a solid training block in for the next few weeks before we gear up for the championship season."
UW heads to Tucson, Arizona, next weekend for the Jim Click Shootout. Multi-events kick start the meet on April 6-7 while the rest of the events will take place on April 8.
