Coulibaly earns top-five finish at Drake Relays

Badgers pole vaulter sets personal best on Friday
DES MOINES, Iowa – Following an eventful Thursday at the 2017 Drake Relays, the Wisconsin men's track and field team was anchored by a pole vaulting tandem on the second day of the world-class meet.
Freshman Rashid Coulibaly leapt to a to a height of 16 feet, 6 3/4 inches (5.05 meters) to tie for fifth-place in a loaded pole-vaulting event.
"Rashid had a good performance in the pole vault," UW Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne said.
After clearing the bar of 16-0 3/4 (4.90m), Coulibaly soared past his previous personal record of 16-3 1/4 by connecting on his second attempt for the mark of 16-6 3/4. Had he succeeded at the next height of 17-0 3/4, Coulibaly would have surpassed his indoor mark by half of an inch, which he set at the 2017 Big Ten Indoor Championships.
Teammate Tim Guthrie came close to his personal record that he set earlier this month with a height of 16-0 3/4 (4.90m) to come in 10th. The junior just missed out on clearing the bar at 16-6 3/4 after coming in second to Coulibaly at the Jim Click Shootout in their previous time on the vault.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the Badgers team of Ryan Dundun, Lorenzo Larry, Corbin Ellis and Alex Teague were unable to finish the event, just missing out on making it to the finals of the race scheduled for tomorrow night.
UW will be back at it bright and early on Saturday, with the men's 1600-meter sprint medley slated to begin at 10:27 a.m. (CT) at Drake Stadium.
