Wisconsin sophomore claims fifth place in 400-meter freestyle
INDIANAPOLIS — Cierra Runge's run of strong finishes at the USA Swimming National Championships continued Friday with a fifth-place showing in the 400-meter freestyle at IU Natatorium.
The Wisconsin sophomore clocked a time of 4 minutes, 8.43 seconds to claim fifth place in the race, which was won by Katie Ledecky in a U.S. open record time of 3:58.44.
Runge will race in her fourth and final event of the championships on Saturday, the meet's final day, when she competes in the 1500 freestyle. In addition to her fifth-place finish in the 400 freestyle, she also took fourth in the 800 free and sixth in the 200 free.
Saturday's preliminary rounds are set for 8 a.m. (CT) and the finals to follow at 5 p.m. Universal HD will air the finals session live from 5-7 p.m., with a live stream also available via the NBC Sports app.
