Badgers soar past Golden Eagles 4-1 in final exhibition game

Bahr, Pickett, Rhodes and Rice light up the net in UW victory
MADISON, Wis. – Marquette may have scored first but the Wisconsin women's soccer team definitely got the last word in the Badgers' 4-1 scrimmage victory on Thursday night.
The Golden Eagles scored in the second minute but it only took three more minutes for the Badgers to respond with a goal of their own from sophomore Dani Rhodes, who scored the lone goal in the first scrimmage of the season.
Not long after that, junior Victoria Pickett knocked in a goal in the 14th minute to capture the 2-1 lead. Pickett is returning after taking a redshirt season to play with Team Canada in 2016.
Rookie Lauren Rice got in on the action at the 17-minute mark, extending the Badgers' lead before sophomore Grace Bahr finished off the scoring in the second half to secure the 4-1 win.
Senior Caitlyn Clem and sophomore Jordan Bloomer both saw time in net, combining for three saves. Wisconsin outshot Marquette 7-4.
"It feels good to get a good result early in the season," head coach Paula Wilkins said, "Especially when we're getting a lot of different people that experience. I thought there were a lot of good individual performances, so my job is a lot harder now. We're going to have to figure out how to get everybody on the field.
"We hope to keep the energy up and carry this into Kentucky and the rest of the season."
The Badgers open their season Aug. 18, welcoming Kentucky to McClimon for a 7 p.m. matchup.
