Badgers advance to championship bracket of East-West Match Play

UW earns No. 4 seed and will face Oregon on Monday
MADISON, Wis. – Behind a pair of top-10 finishes, the Wisconsin women's golf team placed fourth in Sunday's stroke play portion of the East-West Match Play Challenge at University Ridge Golf Course. That means the Badgers advance to the championship bracket and will face No. 1 seed Oregon on Monday.
Senior Gabby Curtis, who was UW's top finisher at the season-opening Minnesota Invitational, continued her good play, completing her 36 holes at 1-under par to tie for fifth place. She shot an even par 72 in the morning followed by a 1-under 71 in the afternoon.
Junior Jessica Reinecke earned a share of ninth place with a 1-over par total. She shot a 73 in the first 18 and followed that up with an even par 72 in the second round.
Seniors Becky Klongland and Lexi Harkins both finished at +5 for the 36 holes and in a tied for 21st. Classmate Aya Johnson was two shots back in a tied for 28th place.
Wisconsin and Oregon will square off tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. on hole one. The first team to earn three individual wins will advance to the championship match to face the winner of the match between Iowa State and Ohio State on Tuesday. The two losing teams will square off in the third place match on Tuesday.
Freshman Mackenzie Hahn and sophomore Bobbie Stricker are competing as individuals and will face each other in the individual consolation bracket on Monday.
