Dana Rettke named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Middle blocker earns third rookie award of season
MADISON, Wis. – For the third time this season, Dana Rettke of the Wisconsin volleyball team was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. She was also recognized on Aug. 28 and Sept. 11.
The 6-8 middle blocker recorded six career highs on the weekend. She had a team high 19 kills on 34 attack attempts against Michigan State on Friday. Rettke also tied her career best with one assist against the Spartans.
On Sunday, Rettke recorded career bests of five service aces, including four in the third set, against Michigan. She also recorded a career high nine blocks vs. the Wolverines.
On the weekend, the Riverside, Illinois, native averaged 0.88 service aces per set, which leads the Big Ten in conference-only matches. Rettke also added 3.38 kills while hitting .367, and 1.75 blocks per set.
No. 7 Wisconsin (10-1, 1-1) takes to the Big Ten road for the first time this week, traveling to Iowa (12-3, 1-1) and eighth-ranked Nebraska (9-3, 2-0). The Badgers and Hawkeyes face off on Friday at 7 p.m. from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. On Saturday, Wisconsin takes on the Huskers at 7 p.m. from Devaney Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.Â

Badgers drop to seventh in coaches' poll
After falling to Michigan State in five sets on Friday night, the Badgers dropped two places to seventh in this week's AVCA Top-25 Coaches' Poll. Wisconsin has been ranked in the national poll for 49 straight weeks, including 26 consecutive weeks in the top 10.

Michigan State match time changed
The Badgers' match at No. 18 Michigan State on Oct. 7 has been changed to 3 p.m. CT due to the Spartans' football game at Michigan kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
