Ellis, Benning pick up wins on Saturday at Larry Wieczorek Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Wisconsin track and field team continued its successful campaign in Iowa City as the second day of competition came to an end Saturday evening.

Senior Corbin Ellis won the men's 400 meters with a time of 48.79 seconds. Teammate junior Alex Teague crossed the line behind Ellis in 49.75 to finish eighth overall.

In the men's 3000 meter event, junior Zack Benning came out with a huge win with his time of 8 minutes, 16.16 seconds, besting his previous personal-best by 16 seconds.

Wisconsin also had a strong showing in the men's 60 meter hurdles Olympic Development preliminaries with three athletes qualifying for finals. In the finals, sophomore Zach Lorbeck finished fifth overall with a time of 8.39, marking a new personal-best. Behind Lorbeck was junior Trent Nytes, who crossed the line in 8.45 to finish sixth overall, and sophomore Paul Afflitto, who finished seventh overall with a time of 8.57, also recording a new personal-best.

Senior Josh McDonald took fourth overall in the shot put with a toss of 57 feet. 9 3/4 inches (17.62 m).

Sophomore Ryan Clevenger also came in fourth in the mile, finishing in 4:23.15 seconds.

Senior Cooper Barth led the way for Wisconsin in the men's 800 meters, finishing sixth overall in 1:54.74. Crossing the line just behind Barth was teammate freshman Austin Rendon, who clocked in at 1:54.85 to finish seventh.

The Badgers will head to New York City for next weekend's Dr. Sander Invitational on Friday, January 26 and the Columbia Challenge on Saturday, January 27.
