Senior forward posted four-point weekend to lead Badgers against Penn State
MADISON, Wis. – A short-handed goal and three key assists helped senior forward Ryan Wagner post four points last weekend against Penn State in Wisconsin's victory and shootout victory. That performance earned Wagner his second career weekly honor and his first this season as the Big Ten Second Star of the Week.
Wagner's four points led the Badgers to a five-point weekend and into third place in the Big Ten.
Last Friday, the Park Ridge, Illinois, native, set up UW's tying goal in the third period with a feed to teammate Josh Ess while getting knocked over. The Badgers went on to win, 4-2.
Saturday, Wagner scored his first career short-handed goal to get UW on the board while trailing 2-0 in the second period. The unassisted goal marked his 10th of the season. He then had the primary assist on UW's third goal that brought UW to within 4-3 in the third period in a game it tied, 4-4. He led all Badgers with six shots in the game.
Wagner leads the Badgers with 26 points in 29 games played this season. He is two points shy of his career-high total for a season, while his 10 goals have already matched his career best from his sophomore season.
Wagner and the Badgers (13-12-4, 7-8-3-1 Big Ten) visit No. 20 Michigan (12-12-2, 7-9-2-1 Big Ten) on Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. Both games are on Fox Sports Wisconsin and 1310 WIBA.
