Junior goaltender tallied 57 saves, one shutout in sweep of Boston College
MADISON, Wis. – After tallying 57 saves and a shutout en route to a series sweep of then-No. 12 Boston College last weekend, junior goaltender Jack Berry was recognized as the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Backstopping the Badgers in both Friday and Saturday's contests, Berry stuffed nine of 11 power-play shots and 57 total shots over the weekend to lead UW to its first-ever sweep of Boston College.
The Holly, Michigan, native notched his fourth career shutout in Friday's 3-0 defeat of the Eagles, marking UW's sixth all-time season-opening shutout.
With four career clean slates, Berry now ranks 10th on Wisconsin's all-time shutout list, tied with two-time NCAA most outstanding player and Olympic goaltender Marc Behrend (1980-83).
The award marks Berry's fourth career Big Ten Star of the Week honor. Berry's last conference nod came last January after the netminder tallied a 40-save shutout in a 5-0 victory over then-No. 1 Notre Dame.
