MADISON, Wis. – Homecoming weekend sure treated the Wisconsin men's soccer team to a delightful surprise at the McClimon Complex. Wisconsin (7-5-2, 4-2-0 B1G) knocked off No. 18 Michigan (9-4-1, 3-2-1 B1G), 1-0, in an absolutely thrilling 107 minutes of soccer.Â
The game-winning play in the double-overtime match couldn't't have come without UW junior Duncan Storey's swift gather and turn. The junior put a rope through to Melick who touch it once, twice, three times before sending a dart passed an elite Michigan goalkeeper. It was Melick's third goal of the season, his second game-winning strike and Storey's second assist.
Junior Dean Cowdroy had four saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season and second against a ranked opponent.
The majority of regulation time play was centered in the middle of the pitch, possessed fairly evenly by both teams. The game was a physical one as the whistle was blown 33 times, 20 against the Badgers and 13 against the Wolverines.
Michigan outshot UW 14-9 but both teams had five shots on target.

"Michigan is an excellent team. It was a huge Big Ten battle. Great to win on homecoming weekend. I'm extremely proud of these guys. They've become a very good soccer team in a very short amount of time. There is something special about a team that can win games in overtime – it's very hard to do. To pitch a shutout against that team and give our attack a shot to score a goal was simply outstanding."
"Compliments to Noah Melick. Andrew Akindele was great today as well. I thought he had some opportunities that could have gone his way also. Our midfield was fantastic – Mitch Guitar, Isaac Schlenker, Duncan Storey, and Noah Leibold – all were phenomenal tonight. "
"We pressed the game in overtime because I knew our backs wouldn't get beat in the air or on the ground. That's how much confidence I have in that back four in tough situations. They turned the game back on their end of the field and gave our other guys a chance to score. We're going to enjoy this and move on."
