Wisconsin and Milwaukee battle to a double-overtime draw

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's soccer team battled in-state rival Milwaukee to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
The Badgers (5-4-2) hoped to turn two wins from its in-state showdowns this season after beating Marquette, 1-0, but Wisconsin was happy to leave unbeaten after a 1-1 tie to the Panthers (6-3-2).

It only took six minutes for Wisconsin to find the back of the net as the Badgers nonchalantly moved the ball up and down the field without a fight. Sophomore Zach Klancnik hit a cutting senior Isaac Schlenker in the middle of the box for a header goal.

But the match turned out to be a doozy and a very even affair at that.

The Panthers finally got a breakthrough with just over a minute to play in regulation off a corner kick header to tie the game at 1 and send it to overtime.
The extra minutes bred no winner though and both teams left the derby with a tie.

The Panthers outshot the Badgers 19-11 and led Wisconsin in corner kicks 11-6. Fouls were even at 17-apiece.

Straight from the Pitch:
Head coach John Trask
"Great first-half goal. As I reminded the guys at the beginning of the game, we tied them last year at their place. The year prior we did beat them but there have been times more recently when we have tied. We need to get rested up for Sunday's match now. We have four days to get ready. It was a good in-state derby – 1-1 is a fair result. In games like today's, oftentimes teams find a way to lose. Today, we found a way to compete for 110 minutes. I'm proud of the guys. Good luck to Milwaukee the rest of the way."
