Wisconsin sweeps Maryland for fourth-straight win

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Saturday night, the seventh-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team stayed true to its game, weathering the storm from the Maryland Terrapins. The Badgers picked up their fourth-straight win, taking down the Terps, 25-22, 28-26, 25-22, for their second road win of the weekend.

After prevailing in a back-and-fourth battle in the first set, Wisconsin (20-6 overall, 13-5 B1G) had to dig even deeper in the second set in order to secure a 2-0 advantage going into the intermission. UW seemed in control of the third set before Maryland (17-13, 8-10) extended the game, holding off five set points from the Badgers before UW finally clinched the set and the match. In total, the match featured 37 tie scores and 12 lead changes.

The Badgers hit .254 (50 kills – 17 errors – 130 attempts) while holding Maryland to a .127 (37-20-134) hitting percentage. Redshirt junior Madison Duello paced the Wisconsin offense with 13 kills and was joined in the double-digit kill column by Molly Haggerty (11) and Grace Loberg (10).

Haggerty and Loberg also tallied double-digits digs with 10 and 14, respectively, for double-doubles in the match. Setter Sydney Hilley joined the double-double club with 44 assists and 12 digs for her fourth-straight double-double. Libero Tiffany Clark rounded out Wisconsin's double-digit digs club with 10 saves to help UW earn a 62-51 advantage in the backcourt.

At the net, Wisconsin also recorded an 11-9 blocking advantage thanks to six stuffs from Dana Rettke and five blocks by Duello.

Notes to know

The Badgers won 20 matches for the sixth straight season.
Junior Madison Duello led the Badgers with 13 kills, tallying 500 kills for her career.
Sophomore Sydney Hilley recorded her fourth-straight double-double with 44 assists and 12 digs. The 6-foot setter has a team-best 12 double-double this season and 21 in her career.
Sophomore Grace Loberg picked up her eighth career double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs.
Redshirt sophomore Molly Haggerty tallied her 15th career double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs.

"That's a good team. We've seen a lot of good teams this year and I have a hard time believing that that's not an NCAA tournament team we saw tonight. I thought they were really, really, really good all the way through.

"This is such a tough place to play. It's an assault on your senses. There were a bunch of people out in the hallways that they wouldn't let in because it was just standing room only in there and it was just so freaking loud.

"I'm proud of our kids. They are a really good serving team and I thought we did a really good job with our ball control. I thought our outsides were really good. This is a team effort. Dana's carried our team quite a bit and she was excited as anybody in the locker room that they were carrying her tonight. We're certainly happy to see that."
