Drake's Take: Thankful
November 22, 2018 | Women's Hockey
Sophomore Delaney Drake shares what the Badgers are thankful for this season
Hey Badger fans, welcome back to another week of women's hockey. This week as we take on Harvard we will dive into what we Badgers are thankful for.
Â
There are many things to be thankful for this time of year. We are surrounded by great family and friends who constantly support us in all aspects of our lives.
Â
There is a very vital group of people who often go overlooked within the women's hockey program. It takes a village to get us ready each weekend whether it be injuries or equipment. There are many people our team can't function without.
Â
One of these people being Sis Paulsen. Paulsen is our Director of Hockey Operations which means she basically does anything and everything for our team. It's often difficult for us players to wrap our heads around all of the specifics Sis takes care of. Whether it be sharpening skates, booking hotels or organizing schedules, Sis does it all.
Â
"I am thankful for Sis for many reasons," goaltender Kristen Campbell said. "First off, she is extremely knowledgeable about the game and I view her as an expert at what she does- can trust her opinion on anything! She truly wants the best for each of us on and off the ice and will do whatever it takes to help us be at our best on a daily basis! And she also puts up with some high maintenance goalies…"
Â
Being prepared for high-intensity games each weekend requires a lot of physical maintenance. Whenever an injury comes up, Stefanie Arndt, our team's athletic trainer, is always there to help us recover. Stef helps with physical therapy as well as so much more. She's there for us whenever we need anything ranging from treatment to cough drops. We all know that without Stef we wouldn't be able to play at peak performance each contest.
Â
Sophomore Brette Pettet had surgery on her leg following the end of last year's season, Stef was by her side all throughout the entire process.
Â
"Throughout my whole surgery process, I felt a sense of comfort even without my family being present, as Stef was like a second mother to me," Pettet said. "Not to mention my recovery went very smoothly. I'm very thankful for her."
Â
Without the support of our remarkable family, friends, and staff we wouldn't know where we would be. Their hard work allows us to do what we love each and every day.
Â
Thank you, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and siblings. You have shaped us into the people we are today.
Â
Thank you, friends and teammates, for sticking by our sides through every challenging situation, and always giving us something to smile about.
Â
Thank you, staff and coaches, for putting your all into this team each and every day.
Â
And thank you fans, for supporting us each and every game no matter the outcome.
Â
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
