Dana Rettke named Big Ten Player of the Week

Middle blocker recognized for second time this season
MADISON, Wis. – For the second time this season, Dana Rettke of the eighth-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team has been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. She was also honored on Oct. 22, 2018, and was recognized twice as a freshman.
The 6-foot-8 middle blocker had an impressive week at the net, averaging 5.88 kills per set while hitting .471, and leading the team with 1.75 blocks per set for two matches.
Rettke set a school record with 30 kills against Minnesota on Oct. 31, besting the mark of 27 kills set by three athletes under 25-point rally scoring. She is also the first Badger since Brittney Dolgner in 2006 to record 30 kills in a match. Rettke is the third Big Ten athlete to record 30 kills in a match this season and the first to do it in only four sets. In addition, her total ties for the eighth best four-set, single-match kill performance nationally this year.
Against Michigan on Sunday, the Riverside, Illinois, native tallied her third career double-double and second of the season with 17 kills and 10 blocks. Her 10 blocks tied her personal best and team season high.
On the year, Rettke leads the Big Ten with a .434 hitting percentage and 1.59 blocks per set. She also ranks sixth with 3.89 kills per set. In conference-only matches, Rettke leads the Big Ten with a .463 hitting percentage. She also ranks second in blocks per set (1.42) and second in kills per set (4.25).
Wisconsin (16-6, 9-5 B1G) wraps up its home season with two matches this weekend. The Badgers host No. 12 Purdue (21-4, 10-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. before Indiana (15-10, 6-8) comes to town on Saturday at 7 p.m. UW will honor its senior class following Saturday's match, recognizing player Tionna Williams and manager Amber MacDonald.
