Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Badgers bow out of Big Ten Tournament

No. 2 Wisconsin falls to No. 3 Michigan in semifinal match

WESTFIELD, Ind. – Wisconsin men's soccer fell in the semifinal game in Westfield, Indiana to the No. 3-seed, Michigan dashing their hopes at a Big Ten championship repeat.

It was a miserably cold and sleety day at the Grand Park Sports Complex and offense was slow-going for both teams. It was in the 20th minute that Michigan (12-4-2) got its chance at the Badger (10-6-2) net from a handball in the box. Wolverine Marc Ybarra slated home the game-winner.

Both teams tallied under 10 shots in the match but Michigan led, 9-4. Michigan also led corner kicks 8-2.

Junior Dean Cowdroy was a bright spot on the cold and dark November day. Cowdroy tallied four saves in the match, including three absolutely brilliant stops to hold the Wolverines to a single score.

Straight from the pitch:
Head coach John Trask
"Compliment to Michigan. We had an excellent game against them in the regular season and were fortunate enough to beat them in the regular season. Good luck to Michigan and Indiana in the championship match.

"I was proud of the guys today. I thought we battled for 90 minutes and it was a fair result. It was a correct call on the penalty kick – I had no issue with that. Hopefully we're fortunate enough for our season to move on. That's how we're going to think about it leading up to Monday's selection show.

"I think when you look at our resume, we have significant wins against top programs on the road. Our resume stacks up well to be in the tournament field. This team has put together significant wins and we're very hopeful. Hopefully Mitch Guitar is ready to go if we are added into the tournament on Thursday."

Up next: Wisconsin postseason hopes are hardly dashed with the Big Ten Tournament exit. The Badgers' excellent road resume this season will give them a great shot at punching a ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is set for Monday at 3:30 p.m. (CT).
