Four volleyball Badgers named All-American

Rettke, Hilley, Duello and Clark recognized
Sophomore Dana Rettke was named to the first team for the second consecutive season, becoming the third two-time first-team All-American in program history. Sophomore Sydney Hilley earned second-team honors after earning honorable mention recognition in 2017. Redshirt junior Madison Duello was named to the third team, earning her first All-America award, while junior Tiffany Clark earned honorable mention recognition.
The awards will be presented Friday in Minneapolis, at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet. The event is held in conjunction with the 2018 AVCA Convention.
Rettke, a 2018 All-Big Ten and AVCA All-Northeast region pick, currently leads the Big Ten and ranks second nationally with a hitting percentage of .423. The 6-foot-8 middle blocker also leads the conference and ranks sixth nationally with 1.54 blocks per set while ranking seventh in the league with 3.74 kills per set. Rettke was named the AVCA National Player of the Week on Oct. 22 and the Big Ten Player of the Week on Oct. 22 and Nov. 5.
The Riverside, Illinois, native led the Badgers in kills in a team-best 20 matches this season and in blocks in a team-best 23 matches. She recorded double-figure kills in 23 matches this season, including 20-plus kills in four matches. Rettke tallied a career-high 30 kills in only four sets vs. Minnesota on Oct. 31. The 2017 Big Ten Freshman of the year, Rettke also had double-figure blocks in three matches this season, tallying three double-doubles. She had a career-high 11 blocks at Penn State on Nov. 24.
A 6-foot setter, Hilley leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth in the nation with 11.98 assists per set. She registered more than 50 assists in nine matches this season, including a career-high 61 assists at Penn State on Nov. 24. Hilley was named the Big Ten Setter of the Week three times in 2018 and was also named the Player of the Week on Nov. 19. She was named first-team All-Big Ten and AVCA All-Northeast region.
The Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, native also added 2.41 digs per set, which ranked third on the team. Hilley had a team-best 16 double-doubles this season. She also ranked second on the team with 30 service aces (0.26 per set) while adding 0.63 kills and 0.68 blocks per set.
Duello was one of the most improved players in the Big Ten this season, earning her first All-Big Ten and AVCA All-Northeast Region honors this season. The 6-foot-3 right-side hitter ranked second on UW this year with 2.70 kills per set, an improvement of 0.75 per set. She also upped her hitting percentage from .268 in 2017 to .292 in 2018, an increase of .025 points.Â
The Kansas City, Missouri, native recorded double-figure kills in 14 matches this season, including a career-high 24 kills at Penn State on Nov. 24. Duello also tied for fourth on the Badgers with 20 service aces (0.19/set) while adding 0.94 digs and 0.76 blocks per set.
Clark, a 5-foot-11 libero, led the Badgers and ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 4.41 digs per set. She recorded double-figure digs in 27 matches, including seven matches with 20-or-more saves. The Naperville, Illinois, native had a career-high 33 digs at Michigan on Oct. 26. Clark led Wisconsin in digs in a team-best 22 matches. She also added 13 service aces or 0.11 aces per set.
Four All-America honors ties for second at UW for the most recognitions in a season, tying the marks set in 2014 and 2016.
