Junior fueled UW's comeback win over Minnesota last Friday
MADISON, Wis. – After pacing the Wisconsin offense with three points in the No. 1 Badgers' series sweep of No. 7 Minnesota last weekend, junior forward Sam Cogan was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
The honor marks Cogan's first distinction of the season and her sixth league award since joining the squad in 2015.
The Ottawa, Ontario, native scored two goals in the second period before assisting on Claudia Kepler's game-tying goal early in the third period on the power play to lead UW to a 4-3 victory over Minnesota. It marked Cogan's 21st career multi-point game, which paces the Badgers.
The junior ended the weekend with a +2 plus/minus rating and a shooting percentage of .500, which was tied for second in the league.
The Badgers have a bye for the first round of the WCHA playoffs this weekend, and will travel to Minneapolis next weekend to play a semifinal game in the 2018 WCHA Final Faceoff at Ridder Arena. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 3.
