MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's track and field team will send two track athletes and two field athletes to the Gilliam Indoor Stadium in College Station, Texas for the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
Fans can follow the action on Twitter (@BadgerTrackXC) and can stream the meet live on WatchESPN.
1. RETURN OF THE BADGERS: For two Wisconsin student-athletes this is not their first go around on the national stage. Pentathlete Georgia Ellenwood and thrower Banke Oginni both had star performances in College Station at last year's competition with Ellenwood finishing in seventh and Oginni finishing 16th. Ellenwood is no stranger to the NCAA indoor meet, as she's earned three first-team All-America honors in the pentathlon. Â
2. NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: After record setting performances at the Iowa State Classic, distance-runners Amy Davis and Alicia Monson will be making their NCAA Indoor Championship debuts in the 5000 meters. Davis currently has the 12th fastest time in the nation of 15 minutes 44.65 seconds followed by Monson whose time is 15:47.23. These times also chalk up as third and fourth fastest in school history.
3. BIG TEN: All four NCAA qualifying athletes earned a medal at the Big Ten Indoor Championship last weekend. Ellenwood's first place finish stole the show making it her second indoor gold medal from the conference. Oginni took home a runner-up finish in the shot put with a personal record breaking throw of 55-6 1/2. On the track, Amy Davis and Alicia Monson packed a 2-3 punch in the competitive 3000-meter race to collect silver and bronze. Davis and Monson also finished in fourth and seventh respectively in the 5000 meters.
4. MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Georgia Ellenwood will kick off Badger action on Friday competing in the pentathlon beginning at 12:15 p.m. (CT) Banke Oginni will compete in the shot put at 5:15 p.m. followed by Amy Davis and Alicia Monson taking on the 5000 meters at 8:25 p.m. Oginni will return Saturday for the weight throw at 4:30 p.m.
5. SUNNY SAN DIEGO: Following the action in College Station the Badgers will return to competition for the outdoor season beginning with the UC San Diego Invite on Saturday March 31.
