Badgers back on course for first time in a month
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's golf team heads to Bluffton, South Carolina to compete at the Colleton River Collegiate, March 12-13, in the Badgers' first event in over a month.
Here are five things to know before the Badgers tee off:
1. Skill has no age: The Badgers have found huge contributions early this spring season from freshmen Sam Anderson and Griffin Barela. The duo helped guide Wisconsin to three straight victories and a third place finish at the Big Ten Match Play, Feb. 9-10.
2. Palmetto Coast: Wisconsin makes it's first of two journeys to South Carolina this spring for the Colleton River Collegiate. The event will be hosted at the Colleton River Golf Club, located on a peninsula surrounded by a river delta to the Atlantic Ocean. The course is ranked No. 15 on Golf Digest's top courses in South Carolina.
3. Starting Lineup: The Badgers will travel freshman Sam Anderson, freshman Griffin Barela, sophomore Pete Kuhl, junior Jordan Hahn and sophomore Nick Robinson. Senior Eddie Wajda will play as an individual.4. The Competition: The Badgers will face Michigan State, Rutgers, George Washington, Miami, Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati, Penn State, Oakland, Iowa State, Winthrop, and Valparaiso.
5. Thoughts from Coach Burcin: "How well we did at Big Ten Match Play made this long break from competition feel like two months. We are all ready to get going again. Colleton River will provide a great test of golf for us. We have been preaching that all of our goals are in front of us this spring and there is no secret to what it will take. Simple, good decisions and being confident in who we are is what we are focusing on every week from the conclusion of the match play, thru the spring. Because of our depth and how young we are, each of these guys has a strong belief in each other and we are very excited to tee it up again this week."
