Third Badger selected to U.S. team this summer
MADISON, Wis. – M.E. Dodge, a junior-to-be on the Wisconsin volleyball team, has been named to the 24-player U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team-Detroit. The roster is comprised of current collegiate players who will train and compete in Detroit from June 22 to July 1.
Dodge joins sophomore-to-be Dana Rettke, who was named to the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team that will tour China in May, and redshirt freshman Danielle Hart, who was named to the U.S. Women's Collegiate National team that will train and compete in Europe in July.
Dodge is one of four liberos named to the Detroit team. The 5-10 native of East Troy, Wisconsin, played in 30 matches as a sophomore. She ranked third on the team with 2.21 digs per set, totaling 232 on the season. Dodge recorded a career-high 21 digs vs. Marquette on Sept. 14 and tallied the first two service aces of her career this year.
The CNT-Detroit squad, which is part of USA Volleyball's High Performance pipeline and is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women's National Team, will train from June 22-26 at the University of Michigan. Afterward, the athletes will be assigned to one of two 12-member teams that will play three exhibition matches against each other at the Cobo Center from June 27-30. The matches are being held in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships under the same roof.
"We're excited about the 2018 U.S. Collegiate National Team class and look forward to seeing how this crop of athletes perform during training as well as the exhibition matches," USA Volleyball Senior Director Tom Pingel said. "Each year there are athletes who surprise the staff with their performance. I'm sure 2018 will be no different."
Athletes were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held March 2-4 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. USA Volleyball released in March rosters for the CNT-China and CNT-Europe rosters.
