Amann and Barton pick up first wins of the season
AZUSA, Calif. – Senior pole vaulter Taylor Amann became the second Badger in school history to clear the 14 foot mark during action at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday.
Â
Amann picked up her first win this season in the pole vault and also took home a new personal record. Amann cleared the 14-foot bar for the first time in her career to take home the gold. Â
The Hartland, Wisconsin, native is only the second Badger to clear the 14-0 bar and ranks No. 10 in the NCAA.
Â
Rayce Albino cleared the bar set at 13-1 3/4 (4.01m) to finish runner-up. Rounding out the Badger pole vaulters was senior Jane McCurry who cleared 12-2 (3.71m) to finish seventh.
Â
Junior Hanna Barton picked up the Badger's first win on Friday in the discus. The McFarland, Wisconsin, native launched the disc 168-8 (51.43m) to lock in the win for the Cardinal and White. Â

Â
On the track, four powerhouse athletes claimed a spot in the record books for their performance at the Mt. SAC Relays. The relay team of Meagan Blair, Gabby DesRosiers, Brenna Detra and Ebony McClendon finished sixth in the 4x100 relay with a time of 46.08 seconds, ranking fourth in UW history.
Â
Another mark in the record books was achieved by Alissa Niggemann in the steeplechase. The sophomore finished in 10:30.69, a time that ranks No. 7 in school history. Erin Wagner finished 14th with a time of 10:38.24.
Â
In the 400 hurdles, Brenna Detra raced to a fifth-place finish with her time of 1:00.12, followed by sophomore Haley Lubow who finished the race in 1:02.32 to earn 16th place.
Â
Gabby DesRosiers and Ebony McClendon also put up impressive times in the 200 meters. The Badger sprinters finished just hundredths of seconds apart from each other with times of 24.63 and 24.69 seconds.
Â
Bianca Stubler also brought the heat in the 800 meters finishing with a time of 2 minutes 16.21 seconds.
Blair also soared 19-4 3/4 in the triple jump, a PR, to finish ninth in the event at Mt. SAC.Â

Â
Three Badgers were the lone representatives for Wisconsin at the Beach Invite in Long Beach. Sophia Rivera led the Badgers in the javelin as the sophomore launched the javelin 160-4 to finish in 12th. On Taylor Amann:Â
"It was great to see her clear 14 feet. She had a couple of good looks at the school record of 14-3 1/2. When you're in the Shell for three or four months, coming outdoors is completely different. Some of our male vaulters had a hard time with that today, but the weather's going to be better in Madison, we will get more reps outside and that's certainly going to help Taylor and it's going to help the male vaulters. To see her doing that this early and without having jumped outside, speaks very well for what's to come down the road."
Â
On Hanna Barton:Â
"When you come to a meet like this and you look at the roster of schools that are competing, a win's a win. Hanna Barton won against some excellent competition and that's only her second time throwing this season outdoors. Now that the weather is better, there's no snow on the ground, the kids are going to get more reps outdoors which is important."
