Duo honored by national coaches association on Friday
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women's track and field standout Georgia Ellenwood and UW assistant coach Nate Davis received U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region awards, the group announced on Friday.
Ellenwood was named the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year for the first time in her career, while Davis, who coaches Ellenwood in the multi-events, was named the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Assistant Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his 11-year tenure at UW.
A native of Langley, British Columbia, Ellenwood set a Big Ten Conference record in the heptathlon with a score of 6,173 points at the 2018 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships. That total makes Ellenwood the No. 10 performer in NCAA history in the heptathlon, while her point total is not only the NCAA lead this year, but is the No. 5 score in Canadian history and the No. 12 point-tally in the world this year.
It marks the second time in three years a Badger has received the USTFCCCA outdoor regional award as Kelsey Card received the honor in 2016.
Davis leads the combined event and vertical jumps group, having coached a pair of Big Ten champions in Ellenwood and senior pole vaulter Taylor Amann. Amann won her third career Big Ten title and matched the school record with a jump of 14 feet, 3 ½ inches (4.36m) at Big Tens. In addition, Rayce Albino finished second in the pole vault as Davis's athletes scored 28 points to help UW to its best Big Ten outdoor showing since 2012.
